Square Mile Systems are glad to announce that we will be hosting our first workshop since the pandemic. In this workshop, our hosts will be covering how to efficiently map and maintain understanding of IT technical infrastructure. This workshop will focus on Visio techniques and best practice for documenting complex environments such as data centre infrastructure, networks, cloud and ITIL service/application mapping. It is best suited to those who already have some experience of using Visio for IT infrastructure.
Agenda
• Automating Visio infrastructure diagrams from inventory/connectivity datasets & CMDBs.
• Mapping applications, racks, cabling, servers, networks, cloud, floor plans, etc.
• Creating “drill down” diagrams to support high level and low level designs.
• Visio tips and tricks to reduce diagram maintenance and improve accuracy.
• Reducing duplication of documentation across process and team boundaries.
• Designing diagrams to display differences in capacity and risk.
Workshop Format
The workshop will be informal in nature and consist of showing various Visio techniques and features, which many are not aware of. Attendees can discuss and go into detail on areas of specific interest so they get more value out of the workshop.
Speakers
David Cuthbertson – Square Mile Systems, CEO.
David is one of the original founders of the AssetGen system (subsequently merged into Square Mile Systems). He has also developed the specialist Visio training courses that SMS provides. You may have already heard him in our webinar series covering large scale Visio diagramming.
Callum Cuthbertson – Square Mile Systems, Customer Support Services
Callum provides customer support for AssetGen deployments and Visio shape processing. As part of his normal work he also develops our Visio utilities, network connectors and VBA extensions which we will cover in this workshop.
